Abstract :

Exceptional dispensing is "the possibility of safeguarding the spirit of the prescription by the pharmacist in which, when faced with an emergency situation or need, he/she dispenses the most appropriate medication within the real possibilities available in order to guarantee the patient the availability and appropriate use of his/her medication according to the patient and his/her needs".

For different reasons, there are problems with the supply of some medicines, which is a problem for the patient.

SEFAC has decided to investigate this problem. In this issue we publish the results of a study carried out in November 2021 in two autonomous communities that serves as a pilot for another study called RISK FACTORS THAT HINDER ACCESS TO MEDICATIONS IN THE DISPENSING IN THE COMMUNITY PHARMACY (FRAMEFAC) whose results will be presented at the next congress of community pharmacists (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, May 2024).

Subsequently, SEFAC will make a concrete proposal to solve this problem by means of exceptional dispensing, as is already happening in other countries in our environment.
