Abstract :

On 17 May (World Hypertension Day), the Guide for the approach to hypertension by community pharmacists in the primary care setting: a multidisciplinary consensus document was presented at SEFAC headquarters in Madrid. This document is a milestone and has been produced thanks to the collaboration of the Spanish Society of Primary Care Physicians (SEMERGEN), the Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine (semFYC), the Spanish Society of General and Family Physicians (SEMG), the Spanish Society of Hypertension - Spanish League for the Fight against Arterial Hypertension (SEH-LELHA) and the Spanish Society of Clinical, Family and Community Pharmacy (SEFAC). This guide, published in both paper and digital format, addresses four fundamental aspects of hypertension: the different methods of measuring blood pressure (BP), screening for hypertension (AHT) and its different phenotypes, diagnosis with its criteria for monitoring, control and referral and, finally, pharmacological treatment, adherence to it and to heart-healthy lifestyles and the phenomenon of therapeutic inertia. In short, this is a necessary document that will provide greater safety and effectiveness in the approach to AHT.
